What This Tool Measures

Represents character interaction density as a graph to reveal hidden narrative centrality and isolation.

Methodology

  • Build co-presence graph from scene participation.
  • Weight edges by repeated interaction.
  • Inspect centrality and cluster patterns.

Key Terms

Degree centrality
How many characters this one directly interacts with — interaction breadth.
Betweenness centrality
How often a character sits on the shortest path between others — the story’s connectors and gatekeepers.
Bridge character
A character whose removal would fragment the network into disconnected groups.
Cluster
A natural grouping of characters who mostly interact with each other — a family, a crew, a faction.
